Welcome to the Official Website of
Orillia's Municipal Heritage Committee
We are a group of concerned citizens interested in the documentation and preservation of Orillia's heritage. We provide an advisory role to Orillia's City Council.
Orillia is located between Lake Couchiching and Lake Simcoe in Ontario's Lake Country. With a vast history that includes industrial and commercial entrepreneurs due to our central location and transportation routes between Toronto and Georgian Bay, Orillia has great historical records of homes, buildings and streetscapes.
Now a popular vacation spot and gateway to the Muskokas, our more recent history includes our location on the Trent-Severn Waterway, the birthplace of Gordon Lightfoot and the Ontario Provincial Police Museum.
National Historical sites have been erected in Orillia to commemorate historic visits by explorer Samuel de Champlain and the summer home of famed Canadian humourist Stephen Leacock.
Down our main street (Mississaga Street) and our residential neighbourhoods, you will see that the city retains much of the wonderful architecture and charm of its early boom years. |

From April to October each year, communities open the doors to some of our most intriguing and charming heritage sites. Admission is free. And the Ontario Heritage Trust – the province's lead heritage agency – invites you to experience these hidden heritage treasures first-hand.
